Sgt. Nicole Powell Selected as an IACP 40 Under 40 Award Recipient

The International Association of Chiefs of Police selected Sergeant Nicole Powell, who serves in the Investigation and Support Bureau, as a 2017 IACP 40 Under 40 award recipient. Sgt. Powell was selected as an award recipient based upon her outstanding leadership skills and her recognition of the importance of bridging the gap between current law enforcement strategies and evidence-based research. Over the past year Powell has worked with the NOPD to fill the research gap by developing a sustainable research partnership with academic and community partners in our area. Powell believes that quality research on topics relevant to law enforcement offers strategies that reduce, prevent, detect, and control crime while ensuring the safety and wellness of officers.

Powell is dedicated to discovering strategies that can help combat criminal activity. She said, “Knowing that I can make a difference is what motivates me.” The IACP Award was created to recognize law enforcement professionals under the age of 40 who have capitalized on their successes to improve their communities through community service, philanthropic programs, outreach, and education. Powell was acknowledged during the IACP Conference in Philadelphia on Monday, October 23, 2017. To learn more about Powell’s outstanding work, visit the IACP website.
