NOPD Investigates Serious Accident Involving Pedestrian on Tullis Drive

The NOPD is investigating an accident with severe injury involving a male pedestrian.

Today, (Oct. 9) at approximately 1:09 p.m., NOPD received a call that a pedestrian had been hit by a truck in the 5900 block of Tullis Drive. Upon arrival they found an injured 40 - year-old black male. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in serious condition.

The driver of a Sewerage and Water Board truck stated he was traveling westbound in the 5900 block of Tullis Drive, when he observed an unknown male in the middle of the street. At this time, the driver came to a stop and waited for the pedestrian to move out of the street. Once the male pedestrian moved to the passenger’s side of the street, the driver began to go forward. At this time, the male jumped onto the passenger side door running board and grabbed onto the passenger side mirror with his arms. The large black passenger side mirror gave way and the male pedestrian fell to the ground. Subsequently, the male pedestrian landed under the truck’s back rear tires, passenger side.

The driver and passenger of the Sewerage and Water Board truck remained on the scene and there were no impairment factors found of the driver or passenger on scene.  The investigation is ongoing but no charges are expected at this time.

Detective Danny Ellis is in charge of the on-going investigation and can be reached at 504-658-6205.
