NOPD Arrests Suspect in Vehicle Burglary on East Lemans Street

On October 2, 2017, the NOPD arrested Jose Potilla (DOB: 08-23-1978) in connection with a simple burglary of a vehicle that occurred on January 18, 2017 in the 5200 block of East Lemans Street.

At about 6 p.m., the victim had parked his van in front of his residence. Around that same time, the victim said, he observed a late model four-door GMC pickup truck stop near his home. The victim said that no one exited the vehicle, and that he could not see who was inside. When the victim returned to the vehicle at about 5:30 a.m. on January 19, he said, he noticed the driver’s side window and right rear window had been smashed and that two spray paint machines had been taken from the van.

As investigation into the incident progressed, detectives collaborated with Louisiana State Police, Third District investigators and Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives to develop Potilla as the perpetrator.

Potilla was found to have been arrested by Second District detectives on August 29 in connection with an attempted simple burglary that occurred on July 9, 2017 in the 1000 block of Webster Street.

Further investigation revealed that Potilla had been allegedly using multiple aliases since 2009, when he was originally arrested in Orleans Parish for simple burglary.

Potilla was rebooked on a charge of simple burglary of a vehicle in connection with this incident.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Seventh District detectives at 504-658-6070. Citizens with information that can help solve crimes are asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP.
