UPDATE: Suspect Wanted for Attempted Armed Robbery at Jimmy John's and 5 other Armed Robberies

UPDATE: Suspect Wanted for Attempted Armed Robbery at Jimmy John's and 5 other Armed Robberies

The NOPD is seeking assistance in locating Kenneth Barnes (DOB: 12-21-1968) for his involvement in five armed robberies including an attempted armed robbery at Jimmy John’s.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives have linked Barnes to an attempted armed robbery that occurred Saturday (Oct. 24) in the 7600 block of Maple Street. Barnes is believed to have entered the sandwich business armed with a box cutter. He then walked behind the counter and demanded money from the employees.  The employees quickly fled the location. Police believe Barnes then fled in a white van. A photo of the van from surveillance video can be seen below. 

 

 

ORGINIAL STORY:

 

 

The NOPD is still searching for Kenneth Barnes (DOB: 12-21-1968) for his involvement in now 5 armed robberies of multiple businesses.

 

Through the course of the investigation, detectives have linked Barnes to a fifth armed robbery that occurred on Thursday (Oct. 21)  at the Shell Gas Station located in the 600 block of S. Carrollton Avenue. At around 8:08 p.m.,Barnes entered the location armed with a box cutter and demanded money from an employee. After taking the money, he was then seen running off in an unknown direction.

 

Kenneth Barnes (DOB: 12-21-1968) has also been identified as the perpetrator of 4 other armed robberies at the Smoothie King in 200 block of North  Carrollton Avenue on March 1, 2016; Rite Aid at 1133 South Carrollton (March 2); Maple Street Bookstore at 7529 Maple Street, and the Rite Aid at 7133 St. Charles Avenue (Sept. 29). Barnes also has seven additional warrants for crimes committed throughout the city.

Armed Robbery

In Louisiana, an armed robbery conviction requires the offender to be imprisoned at hard labor for 10 – 99 years, without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence. When a firearm is used in the commission of the crime, the offender will be imprisoned for an additional 5 years that will be served consecutively to the original sentence.
