NOPD Seeking Blue Jeep Liberty Involved in Shooting on I-10 West at Chef Menteur Highway

The NOPD is seeking assistance in their search for a vehicle believed to be involved in a shooting that took place today (Oct. 27) along Interstate 10 West at Chef Menteur Highway.

At about 11:15 a.m., the victim was cleaning up trash along I-10 West near the Chef Menteur off-ramp, while wearing a bright neon yellow safety vest. The victim told police he observed a blue Jeep Liberty, believed to possibly be around a 2004 model, approach him, traveling about 50 mph in the right lane. The victim told police he then observed a black male driver and a black male in the rear passenger seat, with the passenger hanging out of the rear right window armed with a black pistol. As the vehicle passed his location, the victim told detectives, the rear passenger fired about six shots in the victim’s direction. The victim sustained a minor graze wound to the right hip. The vehicle then fled westbound on I-10 West.

The blue Jeep Liberty is described as bearing an unknown Mississippi license plate. The vehicle is missing its spare tire, which would be located on the rear door.

Pictured are sample photos of a vehicle similar to the vehicle sought in this incident, but not the actual vehicle.
