A 53-year-old man has died from injuries he received in a shooting on Gallier Street on September 29.
The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office confirmed Benny Weary died days after he was shot by a homeowner in an incident in the 1900 block of Gallier Street.
NOPD arrested the homeowner, Abraham Venson, 73, and booked him with aggravated battery.
Based on the initial investigation, around 3 a.m., Venson saw two men in his garage. The men then ran off and Venson fired shots at them as they ran away. Weary was struck by the gunfire.
The NOPD Homicide Division has taken over the investigation. Additional charges are possible pending the on-going investigation.
