NOPD VOWS, U.S. Marshals Arrest Suspect in Homicide Investigation

The NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad and the U.S. Marshals today (November 17, 2023) arrested Raymond Coats (black male, DOB: 10-06-2003) in the investigation of a homicide that occurred on October 18, 2023, in the 3400 block of Franklin Avenue.

At about 5:24 p.m. on October 18, NOPD Third District detectives responded to a call of a shot person at the location. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported via EMS to a local hospital, where he was later declared deceased.

On October 23, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 41-year-old Calvin Brown and determined cause of death to be from gunshot-related injuries.

Through investigation, NOPD Homicide Section detectives developed and positively identified Coats as the perpetrator in this incident and obtained an arrest warrant on one count of second-degree murder.

NOPD VOWS and the U.S. Marshals located and arrested Coats today in the 7500 block of Stonewood Drive. Wilson was subsequently booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is urged to contact NOPD Homicide Section detectives at 504-658-5300.
