NOPD Investigating Homicide in First District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred on November 22, 2023, in the 2200 block of Canal Street and left one person dead and another injured.

At about 7:58 p.m., NOPD First District officers responded to a call of a shot person at the location. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive adult male on scene who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported via EMS to a local hospital, where he was later declared deceased.

Investigators also learned of a second adult male who arrived at a local hospital via private conveyance for treatment of a gunshot wound. The victim was later determined to have been injured in this incident.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. No additional details are currently available.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the deceased victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
