NOPD Investigating Homicide in First District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred during the evening hours on November 19, 2023, at the intersection of North Claiborne and Esplanade avenues that left two people dead.

At about 7:30 p.m., NOPD First District officers responded to a call of shots fired at the location. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male gunshot wound victim on scene. Officers learned soon after that a 17-year-old juvenile female gunshot wound victim had been transported to a local hospital via EMS. The adult male victim was pronounced deceased on scene, while the juvenile female victim was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. No additional details are currently available.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victims and official causes of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
