NOPD Investigating Fatal Hit-and-Run in Sixth District

Members of the New Orleans Police Department’s Fatality Section are investigating a traffic incident that left a 26-year-old male dead. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family members.  The incident occurred on the US 90 East Claiborne Avenue Overpass and Earhart Boulevard at approximately 7:09 p.m. 

According to investigators, the 26-year old male was walking his bicycle across the overpass when he was struck by a vehicle.  The unknown driver and unknown vehicle type fled the scene.            

Emergency Medical Personnel pronounced the 26-year-old male dead on the scene. 

The incident remains under investigation.  Blood and alcohol tests are pending.  The Orleans Parish Coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death and will release the identity of the victim.
