The New Orleans Police Department's Crime Lab has received accreditation from the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) in the Field of Forensic Testing.
This means that NOPD's Firearms and Advanced Crime Scene Units have received renewed accreditation, while the Crime Scene Unit has achieved its first accreditation.
In a November 15, 2023 letter to the Crime Lab announcing the achievement, the ANAB stated, "achieving accreditation is the result of extensive commitment of resources and much preparation by the management an personnel of the entire organization."
NOPD Crime Lab Director Dr. Shamika Kelley, commended the work of her staff in keeping standards high and achieving this milestone. "I am honored to work with such an outstanding team," stated Kelley.
Kelley says the work will not stop here. The Lab will continue to enhance policies and practices to maintain current accreditations and seek accreditation in Drug Chemistry and DNA units for full accreditation.
