The NOPD has arrested Crystal Baumann (DOB: 01-12-1984) in connection with the shooting death of 29-year-old Troy Cooks on November 11, 2017 in the 1900 block of North Rampart Street.
At around 12:31 p.m., Louisiana State Police responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting in the area. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim later identified as Cooks suffering from a single gunshot wound to the face. The victim was transported to University Medical Center. Cooks later died as a result of his injuries.
After further investigation, detectives learned that Baumann and the victim had allegedly become involved in an argument. During the argument, Baumann reportedly produced a gun and shot the victim once in the face. Baumann was taken into custody and taken to the Eighth District station, where she declined to make a statement to detectives.
Baumann was later arrested on a charge of aggravated battery by shooting in the incident.
Upon Cooks’ death, the aggravated battery charge against Baumann was amended to a charge of second degree murder.
