Suspect Arrested for Robbery, Burglary & Attempted Carjacking

The NOPD Seventh District with assistance from the VOWS Unit arrested Jason Batiste (DOB: 10/28/75) on November 6, 2017 for simple robbery, simple burglary and attempted carjacking.

At approximately 10 a.m., Batiste reportedly followed a female victim to her vehicle in the parking lot at 5770 Read Boulevard. When the victim entered her vehicle, the arrested subject pushed her back into her seat in an attempt to gain her car keys.

During the assault, two citizens got the attention of the perpetrator and at that time Batiste grabbed the victim’s purse and fled the location.

The two good Samaritans then pursued the Batiste into the parking lot of 5801 Read Boulevard where they were able to flag down members of the NOPD Special Operations Unit who were then able to apprehend Batiste.

Anyone with any other additional information on the arrested subject should contact Seventh District detectives at 504-658-6070. Citizens with information that can help solve a crime are asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free 1-877-903-STOP.
