The NOPD today graduated 31 officers from Leadership in Police Organizations (LPO) training, which is designed to provide officers at every level of the department with the skills necessary to become a successful leader. The intensive, three-week program was developed by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and centers on the systematic development of leaders at all levels of an organization—the concept of “every officer a leader.”
The program focuses on understanding behavioral science concepts and leadership theories. This is the tenth LPO class since the NOPD started providing the training program in 2012, and since then the NOPD has trained more than 300 officers to date. Superintendent Michael Harrison, who is also an LPO-certified instructor, spoke during the ceremony and acknowledged the partnership with the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office and the training opportunities given to NOPD by the New Orleans Police & Justice Foundation.
