NOPD Looking for Vehicle Involved in Hit and Run

NEW ORLEANS - The NOPD is asking for the public’s help finding any person who may own such a vehicle with damage to the right front bumper and front fender area.

On Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 7:32 p.m. officers responded to the call of a vehicle crash that resulted in a small SUV slamming into a tree and bursting into flames near the intersection of Almonaster Avenue and Louisa Street.

Upon arrival officers learned that the vehicle was struck from the rear by a pickup (possibly a red Ford F-150).

The force of the collision caused the driver of the small SUV to lose control, mount the grassy median and then strike a large palm tree.

Upon impact a four-year-old child was ejected from the vehicle and landed in the grass.

The vehicle then caught fire and the driver was pulled out of the vehicle by citizens in the area.

An adult female passenger died on the scene.

Through the course of the investigation detectives learned that the pickup truck believed to have hit the small SUV immediately fled the area after striking the vehicle.

Witnesses described the truck as a red pickup truck similar to the one pictured above.

The Fatality Unit is asking for the public’s help finding any person who may own such a vehicle with damage to the right front bumper and front fender area.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked contact Detective Danny Ellis of the New Orleans Police Department Fatality Unit at (504)658-6208 or call CRIMESTOPPERS at (504)822-1111.
