NOPD Arrests Third Suspect in Homicide on Chef Menteur Highway

On November 8, 2017, the NOPD arrested Keaun Jones (pictured at right, DOB: 01-28-1999), the third suspect sought in connection with the homicide of Damien Crockem Jr. that occurred on June 13, 2017 in the 9300 block of Chef Menteur Highway.

At about 4:20 p.m. on November 8, NOPD officers responded to a call of a stolen vehicle in the 2600 block of Lavender Street. Upon arrival by police, a group of individuals then fled inside a residence and refused to exit. Officers were able to identify one of the individuals as Jones. NOPD negotiators and Special Operations Division officers arrived at the scene. Jones was taken into custody and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for second degree murder, criminal trespass and resisting an officer.

At about 1:55 a.m. on June 13, Seventh District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting in the 9300 block of Chef Menteur Highway. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unknown black male lying on his back in the parking lot of a hotel. The victim, later identified as Crockem, was pronounced dead at the scene.

As investigation into the incident progressed, detectives were also able to develop Jones as one of three suspects in this incident and obtained an arrest warrant.

Two additional suspects in this incident – identified as Elliot Peters (pictured at left, DOB: 07-15-1999) and Malaiah Marcelin (pictured at center, DOB: 02-19-1998) – were each arrested previously on charges of second degree murder, with Peters also facing a charge of obstruction of justice. Peters surrendered to police on June 24, while Marcelin was arrested on November 3.
