Funeral services will be held today, November 15, and Wednesday, November 16, for former NOPD Officer Jude William Lewis, who passed away on November 8, 2016.
Lewis joined NOPD in 1998, but was injured while on duty in June 2001. Due to the severity of his injuries, Lewis was unable to return to duty.
Lewis' sister, Denise Lewis, described him as a "fighter" and said he "never gave up."
Prior to serving with the NOPD, Lewis served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserve.
A viewing will be held today, Tuesday, November 15, from 4-7 p.m. at Charbonnet Family Services, 9200 I-10 Service Road.
On November 16, a celebration honoring Lewis’ life will be held at Resurrection of Our Lord Church, 9701 Hammond Street. Visitation will take place from 9-10 a.m., with funeral services beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be held at South East Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 34888 Grantham College Dr., Slidell.
