Officers Respond to Call of Shots Fired on Bourbon Street, Suspects Captured on Video

The NOPD is investigating a shooting that took place early this morning (Nov. 16) at Bourbon and St. Peters streets.

A little before 3 a.m., NOPD officers working in the 600 block of Bourbon Street heard multiple gunshots coming from the area of St. Peters and Bourbon. The officers responded to the scene but were unable to locate any perpetrators or injured victims, however they did recover two handguns that had been tossed into a trash can in the 700 block of St. Peters.

Detectives canvassed the area and viewed surveillance video footage provided by area businesses. They observed two unknown black males firing handguns at the intersection of Bourbon and St. Peters before fleeing down St. Peters toward the river.

The first suspect is described as a black male with shoulder length dreadlocks and wearing a white shirt, blue jeans, a gray baseball cap and a wristwatch on his left wrist. The second suspect is described as a black male with short hair who was wearing a red plaid shirt with a gray hood and a white shirt underneath. He also wore a watch on his left wrist.

Detectives used Safecam NOLA to identify additional video cameras and they continue to gather evidence and secure additional surveillance video from the incident. The video footage will be released when it's available and if detectives determine releasing it will help the public identify the suspects.

If you have any information about this incident or can provide NOPD with video that could be helpful in this investigation, please contact any Eighth District detective at 504-658-6080. SafeCam NOLA is a NOPD initiative that enlists the help of community members in the fight against crime. The SafeCam online registration service was developed by the New Orleans Police & Justice Foundation.

Citizen-provided security camera footage is increasingly becoming an invaluable asset to NOPD, helping establish leads and identify perpetrators. By voluntarily registering your contact information with NOPD through SafeCam NOLA, detectives will know how to reach you if a crime occurs in the vicinity of your camera. Registering your information does not provide NOPD with direct access to your camera and NOPD will only contact you if they believe your camera could contain evidence relevant to a criminal investigation. Evidence provided by your camera could mean the difference between bringing a perpetrator to justice versus leaving a crime unsolved.
