NOPD Investigates Third District Traffic Fatality

The NOPD is investigating a traffic fatality that occurred near the intersection of Gentilly Boulevard and Elysian Fields Avenue.

On May 3, 2019 around 6:35 a.m., Third District officers responded to an accident with injury at the above location. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive adult male motorcyclist. The victim was pronounced dead on scene by EMS.

During the course of the investigation, officers learned that the victim was traveling northbound on Elysian Fields Avenue when he collided with a moving vehicle. The victim was ejected from the motorcycle, at which time he struck a nearby tree and succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene. No drug and alcohol impairment were suspected.

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine the official cause of death and release the victim's name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family. There are no further details available at this time.
