The NOPD is investigating a traffic fatality that claimed the life of an unidentified adult female victim. The incident occurred in the 5100 block of St. Claude Avenue, this morning (May 27).

Around 12:21 a.m., Fifth District officers responded to a call involving a traffic accident on St. Claude Avenue. When they arrived, they discovered the female pedestrian suffering from injuries she sustained after she was struck by a 32-year-old male driver of a black Cadillac.

Detectives learned that the female pedestrian was crossing the street when she was struck by the Cadillac that was traveling westbound on St. Claude Avenue. The female pedestrian died on the scene.

The driver of the Cadillac did not stop immediately, however he was located and detained on the St. Claude Bridge blocks away from the scene. The driver was brought to the Traffic Compound for testing.

Blood and alcohol tests are pending. No charges have been filed at this time, however charges may be fourthcoming.

The investigation into this incident remains active and ongoing.

Detective Danny Ellis is in charge of the on-going investigation and can be reached at 504-658-6205.

No further information is currently available. The Coroner’s office will determine an official cause of death and release the victim’s identity after completion of autopsy and notification of family members.
