NOPD Arrests Man in Connection Mardi Gras Day Quintuple Shooting

The NOPD has arrested a man in connection with a Fifth District quintuple shooting that left two people dead and three others wounded on Mardi Gras Day February 13, 2018.

Kendall Barnes (B/M DOB: 1/26/1996) was arrested Wednesday, May 16, 2018 and charged with two counts of second-degree murder and three counts of attempted second-degree murder in connection with a shooting involving multiple victims in the 5400 block of St. Claude Avenue in the Fifth District.

Around 8:11 p.m., Fifth District officers responded to call reporting shots fired near the intersection of St. Claude Avenue and Lizardi Street. When they arrived, three victims were discovered suffering from gunshot wounds inside a red four-door Nissan Altima in the 5100 block of St. Claude Avenue after having fled the initial shooting scene a few blocks away.

One victim died in the vehicle. A second victim was transported to University Medical Center by EMS where he later died.

Three additional victims were transported to University Medical Center via private conveyance.

“The arrest of Kendall Barnes shows again the NOPD will not relent until we bring those suspected of committing violent crimes to justice,” said NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison. “The shootings on Mardi Gras Day turned what was supposed to be a festive local celebration for all of our citizens into a time of terror for those near the scene of this horrific crime in the Lower Ninth Ward.”
