VOWS Unit Apprehends Two for Multiple Offenses

VOWS Unit Apprehends Two for Multiple Offenses

The NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad (VOWS) unit apprehended two additional suspects today. They are wanted for such charges as attempted murder and aggravated assault. 

 

Randall Schaffer (DOB: 2/7/1992) for attempted second degree murder and illegal carrying of a firearm. The incident occurred in the 4200 block of General Ogden Street on April 5, 2017, and he was apprehended in the 4100 block of Touro Street. Schaffer was also arrested on a Probation Violation and a Criminal District Court Capias.

 

Matthew Givens (DOB: 2/20/1962) for aggravated assault with a firearm, home invasion, simple battery and simple criminal damage to property for an  incident that took place in the 2100 block of Third Street on April 10, 2017. Givens was arrested in the 1400 block of North Broad.

The Violent Offender Warrant Squad (VOWS) is responsible for tracking down individuals who are wanted for serious crimes and apprehending suspects with outstanding warrants. This unit operates within the NOPD’s Special Operations Division and works in conjunction with the United States Marshals Office Fugitive Task Force. In 2016 the unit was responsible for more than 500 arrests.
