Subject Wanted in Attempted Robbery of Business on Tulane Avenue

The NOPD is seeking assistance in locating and identifying a subject believed to be responsible for an attempted robbery of a business in the 1600 block of Tulane Avenue on April 28, 2017.

At about 2:30 p.m., the subject was seen allegedly attempting to shoplift candy bars from the business. However, he was noticed by a female store employee and stopped before he could exit the location by another employee activating a magnetic lock on the doors. As the subject removed candy bars from his pockets, the owner suspected him of having additional stolen candy bars in his pockets. The suspect then forced his way through the doors, while attempting to reach the cash register through the partially open security deposit window. The male employee told police that he, the female employee and another male pushed the subject away from the window, and the suspect fled the scene on Tulane Avenue. The store employee suffered a deep laceration to her arm in the altercation and was treated at the scene by EMS.

The suspect is described as a black male last seen wearing a white tank top shirt, blue pants, blue shoes and a black back pack. A photo of this individual taken from surveillance video is included with this release.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or the pictured individual is asked to contact Eighth District detectives at 504-658-6080. Citizens with information that can help solve crimes are asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP.
