The NOPD is investigating a Hit & Run accident that occurred last evening (March 12, 2024) that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.

At about 10:09 p.m., NOPD Seventh District officers responded to a call of a vehicle crash at Paris Road (I-510) and Chef Menteur Highway.

Upon arrival, officers discovered an unknown pedestrian in the far-left lane of westbound Chef Menteur Highway. EMS arrived and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

Through investigation, it was determined that the victim was apparently walking in the roadway, in a dimly lit area, when they were struck by a vehicle.

That vehicle did not stop. However, the driver of another vehicle came upon the victim sometime afterwards and was unable to avoid running over the victim. The driver of that vehicle stopped and cooperated with investigators.

The Orleans Parish Coroner will officially identify the victim and determine cause of death in this incident upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
