NODP Quickly Arrests Suspect in Homicide Investigation

The NOPD has arrested a suspect in the investigation of a homicide that occurred on March 11, 2023, in the 2300 block of Marais Street that left a female victim dead.

At about 11:08 a.m. on March 11, NOPD Fifth District officers responded to a call of a residential burglary in the 1100 block of Saint Roch Avenue, near the intersection with Marais Street. Upon arrival, officers observed a gray Ford SUV had crashed into a building at the location. A male subject, later identified as Anthony Cooper (DOB: 05-10-1992), was quickly detained at the scene for further questioning.

While investigating, officers entered the building and located an unresponsive female subject inside. New Orleans EMS arrived on scene and subsequently pronounced the female to be deceased. At that time, NOPD Traffic Fatality Unit and Homicide Unit detectives were called. The incident was reclassified as a traffic fatality before later being determined to be a homicide.

Upon questioning and further investigation, detectives determined Cooper to be the perpetrator in this incident and obtained an arrest warrant on one count of second-degree murder. Cooper was subsequently arrested and booked accordingly into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will officially identify the victim and determine cause of death upon completion of autopsy.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Anyone with additional information that can assist in this investigation is urged to contact NOPD Homicide Section detectives at 504-658-5300.
