NOPD VOWS Arrests Suspect in Homicide Investigation

The NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad today (March 30, 2022) arrested Joshua Taylor (pictured, black male, DOB: 04-25-2003) in the investigation of a homicide on March 16, 2022, in the 4700 block of West Adams Court.

At about 9:03 p.m. on March 16, NOPD Seventh District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive adult male lying in the street and having sustained a gunshot wound(s). The victim was declared deceased at the scene.

On March 18, the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office positively identified the victim as 21-year-old Raynell Hughes.

Through investigation, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives developed and positively identified Taylor as the perpetrator in this incident and obtained an arrest warrant on a charge of second-degree murder.

NOPD VOWS officers located Taylor today and arrested him without incident. He was booked accordingly into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to contact NOPD Homicide Det. Matthew Riffle at 504-658-5300.
