NOPD Investigates Seventh District Traffic Fatality

The NOPD is investigating a traffic fatality that occurred early Tuesday morning (March 3, 2020) in the Seventh District.

At about 2:33 a.m., Seventh District officers responded to an accident with injury in the 13000 block of Chef Menteur Highway. Upon arrival, officers discovered two adult females suffering from injuries they sustained during the traffic accident. Both victims were transported to an area hospital by EMS.

Upon further investigation, officers learned that the victims were traveling down Chef Menteur Highway, when for reasons unknown, their vehicle veered off the road and struck an 18-wheeler that was parked on side of the road.

One of the victims later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. The second victim is listed in stable condition at the time of this writing.

No further information is available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine the official cause of death and release the victim's name upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.

Traffic Fatality Detective Michael Baldassaro is leading the ongoing investigation and can be reached at 504-658-6208 with any additional information.
