Suspect Arrested for Threats Made at Second District School

The NOPD has arrested a suspect in connection with threats made at a school in the Second District.

 

On Friday, March 2, 2018, Second District officers were advised of threats which were made at Sophie B. Wright School.

 

During the course of the investigation, officers learned that the suspect, Kia Simmons, (B/F DOB: 7/24/2000), made threats via the restroom wall.

 

With the cooperation of school officials Simmons was identified and apprehended. At the time of arrest, Simmons confessed to the crime and stated the threats were a prank.

 

Simmons was arrested for criminal mischief and disturbing the peace by threats.

 

This investigation is a result of the NOPD’s commitment to investigate all threats made to schools within the city and to ensure the safety our students.

 

All threats to our schools and students will be taken seriously and handled aggressively to ensure the identification and prosecution of those threating harm and jeopardizing the public’s safety.
