NOPD Arrests Five for Simple Robbery, Cruelty to a Juvenile

Members of the NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad and investigative units from the Second and Sixth districts today arrested five suspects in connection with a simple robbery incident that occurred on March 14, 2018 at the intersection of St. Charles Avenue and Josephine Street.

Arrested in connection with this incident were Janae Armstrong, (DOB: 08-07-2000), Lenika Cormier (DOB: 05-03-2000), Diante Dorsey (DOB: 12-12-2000), Hilbert Walker (DOB: 10-31-1999) and Tyren Hankton (DOB: 04-12-2000).

The victim – a juvenile male –  told police that at about 3 p.m. on March 14, he walked into a store in the 2000 block of St. Charles Avenue with the five suspects along with a sixth individual. After buying drinks and exiting the store, Dorsey and a juvenile male subject who joined the group allegedly punched the victim in the head. The juvenile male suspect then reportedly removed the victim’s Apple watch from the victim’s wrist, and the subjects walked away without further incident. Immediately after the incident, Dorsey allegedly called the victim and said that his watch would be returned if the victim paid him $200.

While Armstrong, Cormier, Walker and the sixth individual did not actively take part in the robbery or battery, Walker is believed to have allegedly recorded the incident and distributed the video to others. The sixth individual is not wanted in connection with this incident.

Second and Sixth District investigators were able to positively identify Armstrong, Cormier, Dorsey, Hankton and Walker as suspects involved in the incident, as well as identifying  the male juvenile suspect (DOB: 06-17-2001) and secure warrants for their arrests.

Armstrong, Cormier, Dorsey and Walker were located and arrested on March 21 in the 1400 block of Napoleon Avenue in the Sixth District, while Hankton was located and arrested in the 10200 block of Seawood Street in the Seventh District. Each was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center with one count of simple robbery and one count of cruelty to a juvenile.

The male juvenile suspect remains at large and is wanted for simple robbery in this incident.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to contact NOPD Second District detectives at 504-658-6020.
