NOPD Makes Multiple Arrests for Guns and Narcotics

Second District officers took four guns and numerous narcotics off of the street last week.

 

On, March 19, 2017, during Super Sunday festivities, the Sixth District broadcast a description of a suspect involved in a possible aggravated assault. Second District Officers Jason Jorgenson and Michael Dewey spotted an individual matching the description and detained him.  The individual, later identified as Ricky Nelson (DOB: 9-7-94) of St. Martin, LA, was carrying a black .45 semi-automatic handgun in his waistband. Nelson was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of weapons.

 

On March 21, 2017, Officers Russell Gary and Jason Jorgenson conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Fern and Olive streets. During the course of the traffic stop officers located a .45 semi-automatic handgun and approximately 13 grams of marijuana. Kenneth Murdock (DOB: 1-31-96) was arrested for possession of marijuana) and illegal possession of a firearm.

 

Later that day, Officers Gary and Jorgenson conducted another traffic stop at the same location and arrested Carlos Fruga (DOB: 9-11-94) for possession of a 9mm semi-automatic handgun, marijuana and crack cocaine. He was charged with possession of a Schedule I CDS (marijuana), possession of a Schedule II CDS (crack cocaine) and illegal carrying of a weapon while in possession of narcotics.

 

On March 22, Officers Michael Dewey and Damien Gaines, with assistance from Second and Sixth District officers, arrested David Dixon (DOB: 12-9-98) in the 7900 block of Olive Street.  Officers confiscated a chrome .380 semi-automatic handgun and Dixon was charged with illegal carrying of a weapon, possession of a Schedule I CDS (marijuana), possession of a Schedule IV CDS, (Alprazolam), and illegal carrying of a weapon while in possession of narcotics.
