NOPD Makes Arrest in Fifth District Homicide

The NOPD has arrested a suspect in a shooting that left a man dead in the Fifth District  in the early morning hours of June 19, 2023.

At about 2:05a.m., NOPD Fifth District officers responded to a call of a shot person in the 3100 block of Edith Weston Place. Upon arrival, officers located a 45-year-old male with multiple gunshot wounds inside a residence. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS.

Through investigation, detectives positively identified Wendell Butler (Black male, D.O.B: 12-29-1987) as the perpetrator in this incident and issued a warrant for his arrest.

Butler turned himself into officers in the Eighth District last night (June 19, 2023).  He was booked on charges of second-degree murder.
