NOPD Makes Arrest in Fatal Bicycle Accident

The NOPD has arrested the driver of a vehicle that struck and killed a bicyclist last night (June 13, 2023) at the intersection of Marigny Street and St. Claude Avenue.

According to investigators, at about 11:45p.m., the victim was traveling southbound on a bicycle on Marigny St. and was crossing St. Claude Avenue when he was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on St. Claude Avenue.

The vehicle was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the crash.  The victim, an unidentified adult male, was transported by EMS to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. 

The driver remained on scene and was arrested on charges of negligent homicide and reckless operation of a vehicle. He is identified as Darren Mcintosh, (Black male, DOB: 07-10-1986). 

Additional charges may be forthcoming pending the results of toxicology tests.

NOPD Traffic Fatality Detective Michael Baldassaro is the lead investigator in this incident.
