The NOPD today (June 22, 2022) arrested suspects Traves Scott (black male, DOB: 05-15-1982) and Charles Penn (black male, DOB: 05-15-1992) in the investigation of a homicide on June 8, 2022, in the 8000 block of Trapier Street.

At about 3:23 p.m. on June 8, NOPD Seventh District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers located a male gunshot wound victim. The victim was transported via EMS to a local hospital, where he was later declared deceased. At that time, the incident was reclassified as a homicide.

On June 13, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 26-year-old Derrell Brooks, and determined cause of death to be a homicide by gunshot wound.

Through investigation, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives developed and positively identified Scott and Penn as perpetrators in this incident. Earlier today, detectives obtained arrest warrants on one count each of second-degree murder, obstruction of justice and felon in possession of a firearm.

Both Scott and Penn were located and arrested today and will be booked accordingly into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.
