NOPD Seeking Vehicle Involved in Fatal Hit and Run Crash

The NOPD is seeking assistance in locating a vehicle believed to have been involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash on June 4, 2021 on Hayne Boulevard near Unity Street.

At about 10:04 p.m., the victim was reportedly operating his motorcycle westbound on Hayne Boulevard in the right lane. At the same time, a red Dodge Ram pickup truck was reportedly traveling eastbound in the left travel lane. As both vehicles approached the intersection, the pick-up truck for unknown reasons is believed to have crossed into the westbound lanes of travel and to have struck the motorcycle in a head-on collision. As a result of the collision, the motorcycle driver suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the pickup is believed to have fled the scene in the vehicle heading east.

Investigators on the scene retrieved evidence at the crash scene leading them to identify the truck color, make and model as the perpetrator vehicle. A stock photo of a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle is included with this release.

Investigators are working to identify the vehicle and the driver of the pick-up truck. The wanted truck will have heavy front-end damage and a missing grill.

Anyone with additional information on this incident or the suspect vehicle is asked to contact NOPD Traffic Fatality Investigator Richard Chambers at 504-658-6205 or call anonymously to Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at 504-822-1111 or toll-free 1-877-903-STOP.
