UPDATE: Vehicle Crash Results in Recovery of Stolen Items; Additional Suspect Arrested

Our previous story:

Louisiana State Police and NOPD released information today (June 30) about a vehicle crash that occurred in the 7400 Chef Menteur Highway on June 28, 2017. NOPD also re-released information about a suspect wanted in connection with a string of auto burglaries.

The vehicle, a white 2017 Honda Accord with a specialized Saints license plate number 16259, crashed into a fence outside the Jude Travel Park. One adult male, identified as Brandon Harold (DOB: 6-18-1992), was ejected from the vehicle and later died. A juvenile female, identified as Ivory Washington (DOB: 5-14-2015) was pulled from the back seat of the vehicle and expired on the scene. A second adult male, Kenneth Davis (DOB: 12-1-1995) exited the vehicle and shot himself with a Glock 9mm. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators determined that the Honda Accord was stolen in the 2500 block of Gladiolus Street in the Third District on January 16, 2017, and the vehicle’s license plate was stolen in an auto burglary in the 2300 block of Napoleon Avenue in the Sixth District on June 12, 2017.

One of the firearms in Davis’ possession was a Glock 9mm that was stolen in a vehicle burglary in the 2100 block of South Salcedo Street on March 17, 2017. A second firearm located inside the vehicle was a Springfield Armory XD 9mm that was stolen during an auto burglary in the 2800 block of Soniat Street on June 10, 2017. A third firearm – an unidentified Ruger Blackhawk pellet rifle – was located in the trunk of the vehicle along with various magazines and ammunitions.

Two laptop computers were also found inside the vehicle, including one taken in an auto burglary in the 4600 block of Cortez Street on June 11, 2017, and one taken during an auto burglary in the 3600 block of Delgado Street on June 17, 2017.

Investigators also recovered two wallets inside the vehicle. One was taken in an auto burglary on June 5, 2017, in the 14000 block of Emory Road, and the other was taken during a vehicle burglary in the 2400 block of Wisteria Street on January 16, 2017.

The NOPD is still looking for Robert Hudson (DOB: 8-14-1985) as an additional suspect in the auto burglaries. He is described as a black male with a thin build and shoulder-length dreadlocks.

If you have information regarding the whereabouts of Robert Hudson please contact any Second District detective at 504-658-6020, or call the NOPD non-emergency number at 504-821-2222.

Auto Burglary and Theft

Vehicle burglaries and thefts are largely avoidable. Here are some tips on how to avoid car break-ins and thefts:

1. Lock the doors

2. Close windows and sunroofs

3. Don’t leave valuables such as laptops, cell phones, wallets, purses or GPS devices in plain view

4. Put away the garage door opener and any items with personal information

5. Move valuables to the trunk before reaching your destination

6. Don’t leave any keys in the vehicle, including a valet key or a spare key for another vehicle that parks near yours in your garage, driveway, etc.

7. Park in a well-lighted place whenever possible

8. Use the emergency brake when parking to make it more difficult for a thief to tow your vehicle away.

Key fobs present a serious weakness in your car's security. An amplifier can detect key fob signals from up to 300 feet away and transmit them to your car so while your keys could be in your house, criminals could still unlock it. To prevent hackers from stealing your key fob signal you can wrap them in foil, place them in a foil-lined box or radio frequency signal blocking bag. You can also put them in your microwave oven – just don’t turn it on.
