Suspect Arrested for Auto Thefts in Seventh District and Texas

NOPD Seventh District officers and detectives quickly apprehended a suspect wanted for multiple offenses in New Orleans, Jefferson Parish and Texas.

The victim stated that at approximately 5:30 p.m. on June 3, 2017, she was dropping off some food and beverages at her church in the 13000 block of North I-10 Service Road. She opened the trunk of her vehicle to remove the items when an unknown male jumped into the driver’s seat of her vehicle and drove away.

Detective James Kish, Sergeant Wade Bowser and Officer Laura May McGuire successfully obtained surveillance video footage from the church. The video depicted an unknown white male who pulled into the parking lot and exited a blue Nissan Rogue. He then walked through the parking lot pulling on car door handles before being observed getting into the victim’s vehicle and fleeing the scene.

Detectives relocated to the abandoned Nissan and learned it was reported stolen from a robbery the previous day in Bryan, TX. They also learned that the perpetrator stole the vehicle from a family member and that the suspect also assaulted the vehicle’s owner. The individual was identified as Christian Hickman-Staudt (DOB: 8/3/1997).

Detectives also learned the vehicle was used in a business burglary earlier that morning in Jefferson Parish.  As detectives were processing the vehicle, Sgt. Bowser observed a white male walking near the church. They confirmed he was the wanted suspect and apprehended him without incident.

Hickman-Staudt was arrested on scene for the offense that occurred in New Orleans, and NOPD also recovered evidence related to the Jefferson Parish business burglary inside the Nissan Rogue. He is also wanted for additional charges in Texas.

Hickman-Staudt was transported to University Medical Center after advising NOPD officers that he had consumed a massive amount of cough syrup and pills.

In addition to auto theft, Hickman-Staudt was arrested for possession of a stolen auto, possession of marijuana, attempted escape, resisting an officer, and criminal damage to city property for destroying a screen in a New Orleans Police Department vehicle.
