NOPD Arrests Suspect on Drug, Gun Charges in Seventh District

Today (June 5, 2017), NOPD Seventh District officers arrested Romaro Washington (08-27-1979) on drug and gun possession charges.

At about 1:25 p.m., Seventh District officers responded to a call of a suspicious person in the 13100 block of Sevres Street. Upon arrival, they found a black male clad in a black t-shirt armed with a handgun was trying to gain entry into a residence in the area. When officers arrived, the male – later identified as Washington – fled onto a porch near the front door of the residence. Washington was apprehended without further incident.

During a search of Washington incidental to the arrest, Washington was found to be in possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia. Officers also discovered that before Washington was apprehended, he attempted to discard the handgun in his possession.

Washington will be booked into Central Lockup on charges including felon in possession of a firearm, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm by a person convicted of domestic abuse battery and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Seventh District detectives at 504-658-6070. Citizens with information that can help solve crimes are asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP.
