NOPD Arrests Suspect in Shooting on Corinne Street

The NOPD on June 14, 2017 arrested Jameal Williams (DOB: 12-14-1998) in connection with a shooting that occurred on June 12 in the 4900 block of Corinne Street.

At about 4:21 p.m., Seventh District officers responded to a call of shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, officers were flagged down by the victim who had suffered a gunshot wound to one leg and a graze wound to the other leg. The victim said he was playing cards with several acquaintances outside of a residence in the 10700 block of Vienna Street when the shots were fired. The victim said he did not see or hear anything prior to the shooting.

On June 13, members of the NOPD’s Special Operations Division Tactical Intelligence Gathering and Enforcement Response Group, or TIGER, were able to identify a suspect vehicle in the incident and identified Williams as the owner.

On June 14, TIGER officers located the vehicle at a residence in the 15500 block of Dwyer Road. Within an hour of surveillance being established, Williams left the scene in the vehicle and drove to an apartment complex in the 14400 block of Peltier Street.

After several hours of surveillance, a TIGER detective elected to enter the complex in his vehicle in an attempt to locate Williams. As the detective entered through a driveway, Williams allegedly approached the vehicle and produced a handgun, pointing it at the detective. The detective was able to drive away from the incident unharmed.

At that time, units approached the complex to arrest Williams, who had fled inside of an apartment. A perimeter was established around the complex, and Williams later surrendered to police without incident. Execution of a search warrant revealed a .40-caliber handgun inside the residence. Ballistics testing showed the handgun matched the weapon used in the shooting on Corinne Street.

Williams was arrested and booked into Central Lockup on charges of aggravated assault, illegal carrying of a firearm and flight from an officer. In connection with the shooting on Corinne Street, Williams was additionally charged with aggravated battery by shooting.

Anyone with further information on this incident is asked to contact Seventh District detectives at 504-658-6070. Citizens with information that can help solve crimes are asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP.
