NOPD Arrests Suspect in Seventh District Homicide

The NOPD has arrested an adult male suspect in the investigation of a homicide that occurred on July 20, 2023, in the 7000 block of Martin Drive that left a 4-year-old child dead.

At about 10:26 p.m., NOPD Seventh District officers responded to a call of a shot person in the 6900 block of Lake Kenilworth. Upon arrival, officers learned that a 4-year-old male had sustained a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was declared deceased. It was later determined that the incident occurred at a residence in the 7000 block of Martin Drive.

As investigation into the incident progressed, an adult male subject was questioned on scene. The subject was subsequently arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on one count of negligent homicide.

Investigation into this incident is ongoing. No additional information is currently available.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
