Listed below are significant arrests or clearances by warrant obtained July 10-16, 2022, in criminal investigations by the NOPD:

Homicide

• On July 16, the NOPD arrested Ariel Shelling (black female, DOB; 07-30-1997) on one count of second-degree murder. The arrest came in the investigation of a homicide on July 8 in the 2700 block of Banks Street.

Second District

• On July 12, NOPD Second District detectives arrested two 15-year-old juvenile black males on two counts each of armed robbery and armed robbery with a firearm. The arrests came in the investigation of an incident on July 8 in the 2600 block of Dante Street and the investigation of an incident on July 8 in the 1500 block of Cambronne Street.
• On July 13, NOPD Second District detectives arrested a 17-year-old juvenile black male and two 16-year-old juvenile black males on one count each of armed robbery and armed robbery with a firearm. The arrests came in the investigation of an incident on July 12 in the 1600 block of Adams Street.
• On July 17, NOPD Second District officers arrested a 17-year-old juvenile black male and a 16-year-old juvenile black female, each on one count of attempted murder, armed robbery with a firearm and illegal use of a weapon. The arrest came in the investigation of an incident on July 17 in the 5600 block of Loyola Avenue.

Third District

• On July 15, NOPD Third District detectives arrested Demetrius Wright (black male, DOB: 11-02-1993) and Kenneth Meyers (black male, DOB: 03-17-1991). Wright was arrested on one count each of felon in possession of a firearm, illegal use of a firearm and resisting an officer. Meyers was arrested on one count of felon in possession of a firearm. The arrest came in the investigation of an incident on July 15 in the 4900 block of Chef Menteur Highway.

Fourth District

• On July 15, NOPD Fourth District officers arrested a 17-year-old juvenile black male on one count of first-degree robbery. The arrest came in the investigation of an incident on July 15 in the 3700 block of General DeGaulle Drive.

Fifth District

• On July 15, NOPD Fifth District officers arrested Christopher Maurice (black male, DOB: 07-10-1950) on one count of aggravated assault with a firearm. The arrest came in the investigation of an incident on May 13 at the intersection of Saint Bernard Avenue and North Broad Street.
• On July 15, NOPD Fifth District officers arrested three 13-year-old juvenile black males and a 17-year-old juvenile black male, each for one count of illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile and for illegal possession of a stolen firearm. The arrests were made in the investigation of an incident on July 15 at the intersection of Desire Street and North Bunny Friend Street.

Sixth District

• On July 16, NOPD Sixth District officers obtained an arrest warrant for Cortez “Ziggy” Payton (black male, DOB: 05-29-1986) on one count of armed robbery with a firearm. The warrant was obtained in the investigation of an incident on July 16 in the 3300 block of Loyola Avenue.
• On July 15, NOPD Sixth District officers arrested Percy Griffin (black male, DOB: 11-23-1989) on one count of aggravated assault with a firearm. The arrest was made in the investigation of an incident on July 15 in the 3900 block of Thalia Street.

Seventh District

• On July 13, NOPD Seventh District officers arrested Irvin Lefere (black male, DOB: 12-14-1985) for armed robbery and aggravated battery. The arrest was made in the investigation of an incident on July 15 in the 10 block of Lake Breeze Drive.
• On July 13, NOPD Seventh District officers arrested Kevin Borden (black male, DOB: 02-13-1991) for one count each of aggravated flight from an officer, aggravated assault with a motor vehicle upon a peace officer, aggravated criminal damage to property, unauthorized use of a moveable and possession of stolen property. The arrest was made in connection with a traffic stop on July 13 at the intersection of Norgate Drive and Bullard Avenue.
• On July 14, NOPD Seventh District officers arrested Shelvon Cooks (black male, DOB: 06-29-2003) and Derrick Anderson (black male, DOB: 05-17-2004). Each booked on two counts of armed robbery and one count of possession of stolen property. The arrests were made in the investigation of an incident on July 14 in the 14200 block of Chef Menteur Highway.

Eighth District

• On July 15, NOPD Eighth District officers arrested Jerome E. Henderson (black male, DOB: 04-11-1967) on one count each of armed robbery and resisting an officer. The arrest was made in the investigation of an incident on July 15 in the 200 block of Bourbon Street.
• On July 13, NOPD Eighth District officers arrested Troy D. Johnson (black male, DOB: 06-10-1987) for one count each of aggravated assault and for theft. The arrest was made in the investigation of an incident on July 13 in the 700 block of Conti Street.
