NOPD Investigating First District Deadly Shooting

NEW ORLEANS – The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred early this morning (July 26, 2021) at the intersection of North Broad Avenue and Bayou Road.

At around 1:29 a.m., NOPD First District officers responded to an aggravated battery by shooting call at the location.  Upon arrival, officers found a 25 year-old male and 23 year old female victim suffering with a gunshot wound(s).  Both victims were transported to the hospital where they later died.

The initial investigation has revealed that both victims were inside of a car driving riverbound on Bayou Road toward North Broad Avenue.  At some point, another vehicle pulled up next to them and opened fire before fleeing on Broad Avenue. No additional details are available at this time.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and release an official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.

Homicide Detective Lucretia Gantner is in charge of the ongoing investigation and can be reached at 504-658-5300.  Citizens may also call anonymously to Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at 504-822-1111, or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP with information that can aid the investigation.
