Suspect Wanted for Auto Theft on St. Claude Avenue

Officers in the Fifth District are searching for Kentrell Lockett (DOB: 01/21/2000) after he was allegedly observed on surveillance video stealing a vehicle on June 30, 2018.

The victim told police he parked and secured his gray 2017 Honda Civic in a parking lot located in the 4300 block of St. Claude Avenue. Upon returning to the location at or around 11:30 a.m. on the aforementioned date, he discovered his vehicle was missing from the location and another car parked where he had previously parked. The victim advised officers that he had placed his keys on the bleachers in a nearby gymnasium while playing basketball. The victim’s keys were reportedly taken and used to steal his vehicle.

On Tuesday, July 10, 2018, officers received a call of a possible stolen vehicle located near Pauline and North Derbigny Streets. Upon arrival, officers observed a vehicle matching the description of the victim’s reported stolen vehicle in the 1700 block of Pauline Street.

During the course of the investigation, officers reviewed surveillance video of this incident and observed a subject, later positively identified as Lockett, approach the location on a bicycle. The subject was then viewed entering the building and, after speaking to an unknown male, walking to the bleachers and taking the victim’s keys. The subject was then seen running to the victim’s vehicle before entering it and driving away in an unknown direction.

Anyone with any information regarding Kentrell Lockett’s whereabouts is asked to contact Fifth District detectives at 504-658-6050. Citizens with information that can help solve crimes are asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP.
