The NOPD is investigating a fatal shooting incident that occurred in the early hours this morning (July 5, 2018) in the 7800 block of Bass Street.

At about 4:39 a.m., NOPD Seventh District officers received a call of an aggravated battery by shooting in the area. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a 17-year-old male had suffered a gunshot wound. Further investigation showed that the victim had knocked on the door of a residence and asked his 11-year-old juvenile female cousin to call police to report the shooting. The cousin then went to a neighbor’s residence for assistance, and the neighbor called the victim’s mother and then dialed 911. New Orleans EMS arrived on scene and rendered treatment to the victim before transporting the victim to an area hospital for further treatment. The victim later died while at the hospital. At that time, the incident was reclassified as a homicide by shooting.

No further details are available at this time. The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office will determine the official cause of death of the victim, upon completion of autopsy.
