NOPD Arrest Suspect for Aggravated Assault with a Firearm

Officers in the Seventh District have arrested Paul Schmit (DOB: 01/27/1964) after he reportedly discharged a weapon at the victim in the 2000 block of Paris Road.

The reporting person told police on Friday, July 6, 2018, he was traveling at a low speed through Bayou Bienvenue when an unknown white male, later identified as Schmit, began yelling and cursing at him to slow down. At that time, the victim reportedly told the subject that he was not going fast.

The victim reportedly docked his boat at a friend’s house to make a sale before heading back down Bayou Bienvenue, towards the area where Schmit’s boat was docked. As the victim approached the area, the pictured subject allegedly stood on his boat and discharged a black semi-automatic weapon at the victim, striking the water in front of the victim’s boat.

During the course of the investigation, Schmit admitted to firing one round from his handgun at the victim. Schmit was transported to the Orleans Parish Justice Center, where he was booked for aggravated assault with a firearm.

Anyone with any additional information regarding this incident is asked to contact Seventh District detectives at 504-658-6070.
