NOPD, U.S. Marshals Arrest Suspect in Shooting on Benton Street

Today (July 6, 2018), the NOPD and U.S. Marshals arrested Ernest Butler (DOB: 10-26-1989) in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on May 30, 2018 in the 1700 block of Benton Street.

At about 3:30 p.m., Seventh District officers responded to the intersection of Alabo Street and North Roman Street, where officers discovered a male subject suffering from a gunshot wound to the right arm and rib cage. After investigation, the location of occurrence was determined to be the 1700 block of Benton Street.  

As the investigation progressed, Seventh District detectives were able to positively identify Butler as the perpetrator and obtain a warrant for his arrest.

Butler was located and arrested by NOPD Violent Offender Warrant Squad officers and members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force at a residence in the 9400 block of Hayne Boulevard. Butler was transported to the Orleans Parish Justice Center, where he was booked for aggravated battery and felon in possession of a firearm.
