On July 3, 2017, the NOPD arrested Avery Julien (DOB: 11-26-1995) after he was found to be in illegal possession of a firearm.
At about 2:25 p.m., Seventh District officers conducted a stop for a traffic violation at the intersection of Benson Street and Hayne Boulevard. While at the location, officers observed the front seat passenger, later identified as Julien, allegedly attempting to hide something underneath his seat. During the investigation of the vehicle, officers located underneath the passenger side seat a silver .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun with an obliterated serial number. Further investigation also led officers to discover that Julien was a convicted felon.
Julien was arrested and booked into Central Lockup on charges of felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
