NOPD Arrests Suspect in Two Homicide Investigations

The NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad and the U.S. Marshals today (January 18, 2024) arrested Earl Simmons (black male, DOB: 06-13-1992) in the investigation of two homicide incidents, both occurring on January 6, 2024.

At about 6:13 p.m. on January 6, NOPD Sixth District officers responded to a call of a shot person in the 2700 block of Washington Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located the victim lying on responsive on the sidewalk. The victim was found to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was subsequently declared deceased on scene.

Later that evening, at about 10:13 p.m., Sixth District officers responded to a call of a shot person at the location. Upon arrival, officers located the victim and found he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported via EMS to a local hospital, where he was subsequently declared deceased.

Through investigation, NOPD Homicide Section detectives developed and positively identified Simmons as the perpetrator in both incidents. Detectives then obtained arrest warrants for Simmons, each for one count of second-degree murder.

Today, NOPD VOWS and the U.S. Marshals located Simmons at a residence in the Sixth District and arrested him without incident. Simmons was booked accordingly into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Anyone with additional information that can assist in this investigation is urged to contact NOPD Homicide Section detectives at 504-658-5300.
