NOPD Quickly Arrests Suspect in Homicide Investigation

On January 25, 2022, the NOPD arrested Tonica Mutin (photo not available, black female, DOB: 11-02-1976) in the investigation of a homicide reported the same day in the 2600 block of Touro Street.

At about 1:30 p.m., NOPD Fifth District officers conducting a wellness check at the location discovered an unresponsive adult male inside of a residence. The victim was declared deceased at the scene. Based on evidence found at the scene, the signal for the incident was changed to a homicide. NOPD Homicide Unit detectives were contacted and assumed control of the investigation.

During the investigation, detectives were notified that Mutin had arrived with her attorney to an NOPD police station regarding this incident. Through investigation, detectives determined Mutin to be the perpetrator, and an arrest warrant was obtained for one count of second-degree murder and one count of obstruction of justice. Mutin was arrested accordingly.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will officially identify the victim and determine cause of death upon completion of autopsy.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to contact NOPD Homicide Det. Miles Guirreri at 504-658-5300.
