NOPD Arrests Suspects in Armed Carjacking Investigations

NOPD Arrests Suspects in Armed Carjacking Investigations

The NOPD, along with partner law enforcement agencies, arrested multiple suspects in recent days in NOPD investigations of respective carjacking and armed carjacking incidents.

Incidents where arrests have been made include:

 

  • William Nelson (pictured, black male, DOB: 05-30-2001) was arrested by Louisiana State Police on January 2, 2021 in connection with an armed carjacking incident on January 2 at the intersection of Carondelet Street and Howard Avenue. Nelson was arrested in Iberville Parish after a pursuit by Louisiana State Police. A second suspect remains at large. Nelson faces charges from LSP associated with the pursuit. In Orleans Parish, Nelson faces charges of armed robbery and armed robbery with a use of a firearm. The second suspect remains at large.   • Bernard Brown (pictured, black male, DOB: 11-27-1998) was arrested on January 3, 2022 in the investigation of a carjacking incident that occurred on the same day in the 2300 block of Dryades Street. Brown was located with the vehicle at a location in the Seventh District and, after fleeing officers on foot, was arrested. A firearm with an extended magazine was also recovered during the search. The stolen vehicle was later recovered in the 7100 block of Martin Drive. Brown was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on charges of armed robbery and flight from an officer.   • Reese Williams (pictured, black male, DOB: 01-25-2003) and Kyren Phillips (pictured, black male, DOB: 07-21-2003) were arrested on January 5, 2022 in the investigation of two armed carjacking  incidents – one on January 2 in the 800 block of Nelson Street and another on January 4 in the 13900 block of Linden Street. The arrests come through a joint investigation by the NOPD’s Second District, Third District, First District, the Violent Crimes Abatement Investigation Team (VCAIT) and Louisiana State Police. During the arrest, offices seized six firearms, narcotics and recovered multiple vehicles reported taken during carjackings. Investigation is ongoing as to if the arrested suspects are connected to any additional incidents. In the Nelson Street incident, Williams was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center of possession of a stolen automobile and unauthorized use of a moveable. Phillips was charged with possession of a stolen automobile, unauthorized use of a moveable and illegal carrying of a weapon.
