The NOPD Homicide Unit is investigating a homicide that claimed the life of a male victim.
On January 3, 2018, Fifth District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting at 1:28 p.m. in the 1800 block of Elysian Fields Avenue.
When officers arrived, they discovered a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim was transported to University Medical Center by EMS where he later died as a result of his wounds.
Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible in this incident, as well as a motive.
No further information is available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine official cause of death and release the victim's name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
